Bypass could be the solution for Lund Kommune

Along FV 4258, Rusdalsveien, there are several rockfalls every year. Local residents are now calling for action and Bypass Rockfall Protection is being highlighted as a potential solution — an innovative product that could save lives.

Kjell Fylkesnes and Astrid Veronica Rydland visited Lund Municipality in February. They presented Bypass Rockfall Protection to the administration, local politicians, and regional county representatives. The presentation sparked engagement and received positive feedback.

A challenging area for rockfall protection

The area near Rusdalsvatnet is highly prone to rockfalls, and politicians are seeking solutions to make the road safer — particularly since it serves as a school route for local children and youth. However, the situation is complex:

  • The terrain makes it difficult to install conventional rockfall protection
  • Rerouting or relocating the road would be very costly
  • Low traffic volume affects the road’s priority in the county’s infrastructure planning

Strong case for Bypass Rockfall Protection

Ahead of the meeting, Astrid Veronica Rydland and Ørjan Nordhus conducted a site inspection and found favorable conditions for installing a Bypass. The illustrations show how the Bypass could be integrated into the landscape.
